The phone rang a moment ago, and just like that! my past collided with my present – but in a good way. It was my (almost) 10 year old granddaughter who has the warmest , most infectious giggle in her voice, that just hearing it, put me in a very “good place,” when only moments before, I’d been feeling somewhat dreary.”Bubbe”, she said, I’m just starting to read Winnie the Pooh. Who’s Peter?”I started to laugh because I realized right away that she was reading the book that had been a birthday gift to me back in 1964 from my then-fiance whose pet name for me was “Pooh.” ”Did he really call you Pooh?” she wanted to know. He’d written a dedication of sorts on the cover page, forever proclaiming to the world that I had, indeed in “another life” been “Pooh.”"He did,” I said. As I told her “all about him,” it brought back memories that I’d set aside for, what? – over 40 years. The nice thing about memories is that they can often be very kind and generous. What a strange but wonderful feeling to be taken back to my 20th birthday by my precious granddaughter. Thank you, Sweetheart; and thank you, Peter.

Is it Okay to Avoid Obnoxious Grandson?
Q. . My daughter often asks me to baby-sit for my 7-year-old grandson. To tell you the truth, he’s an absolute spoiled brat and I dread going over there. Any advice?
