Essay: “What really makes someone a hero, and not just a good person?”Even Heroes have Heroes
By Harriet Benson
What is a hero? Can a hero be anyone or anything? What really makes someone a hero, and not just a good person? Here are some things that in my mind makes a person a hero.
Will power has to be one of the most important parts of a hero to me, because it just makes them never quit until that is the last option. They never say no to something that should be done and they are capable of, unless they feel it is wrong. They are also able to think for themselves, and not be easily persuaded into doing things.
A hero to me is also someone who has done as much to help themselves as they have done to help other people. No point in making others happy, if you won’t feel satisfied in doing so. They have faced challenges and over come them, while learning the values of never quitting.
They must be realistic and show they are not invulnerable. They act like normal people, mostly because they are, just have more will power than others. They don’t gloat about things they achieve. They are not afraid to receive less than they give, whatever it may be.
A hero should never be ashamed of requiring help, because no matter what everyone needs help. All heroes got where they are from someone’s help – its just how it is. In other words, even heroes have heroes.
I don’t think its all about what someone does that makes them a hero, it’s who they truly are. I admire people who have faced problems yet become very successful, even if they haven’t done anything for anyone else. It’s the courage and spirit I think that makes those people heroes. Of course there are also heroes who save lives, change lives, and make lives. Despite the difference I find both types to be heroes, of different but equal merit. <<
