Imagine you had $3 trillion? How old would you have to be to spend it all? It boggles the mind. Here’s our attempt to un-boggle it.
The cost of the war in Iraq is conservatively estimated to reach 3 trillion dollars. Not being a trillionaire myself, the number seems abstract and a little hard to comprehend. Here’s a hypothetical situation that helped me put it in perspective:
Imagine you had $3 trillion and for some odd reason had to spend $100 million every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It would take you 82 years to do it.
Finding it a little difficult to spend $100 million each day? (Who wouldn’t?) Okay, try this: If you had to spend only $1 million every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, it would take you 8,219 years to spend the $3 trillion. <<
Imagine that!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThat 3 trillion WAS our money! Now it IS our debt. Special thanks to Bush and his advisors.
Exactly what Kathy said - we did have it, and we did spend it. Now we get to pay for it, or ask our children and grandchildren to. We are a sick, guilty populace.
